Uzbek pharmaceutical market can hit US$1 billion by 2020
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in conjunction with the state joint-stock company "Uzpharmsanoat" and UNDP "Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase 2)" Project organized a round table on "Current state and perspectives of pharmaceuticals industry in Uzbekistan"

“The event, involving over 80 representatives of ministries of Uzbekistan, tax and customs committees, scientific-research institutes and pharmaceutical companies discussed activities carried out on production of medicines, facilitating further exports and introduction of QMS into pharmaceutical enterprises”, - said Dilshod Rasulov, Head of International Economic Relations Department of the Chamber.

Pharmaceutical sector is an important part of economy of any country. Production of the sector is always in demand, since it promotes health and quality of life. Upon the extension of a life expectancy, the necessity in medicine is increasing, consequently, pharmaceutical industry possess major development prospects, given proper approach to development.

Uzbekistan experience impressive increase in a share of national products manufacture in the volume of pharmaceutical market sales. Thus, during the years of independence, the quantity of industrial enterprises, producing medicine products increases from 3 to 129 with the quantity of designations of produced medicines increases over 10 times. The growth rate of pharmaceutical industry in Uzbekistan in 2011 against 2010 was over 25%, which is equal to 296.4 billion soums.

Experts estimate that up to 2020 the volume of Uzbek market of medicines will increase for over 3 times and will equal to US$1 billion. However, despite high rates of pharmaceutical industry development in Uzbekistan, there is a need in further sector development to use its full potential. Among priority tasks in this regards is production of medicines basing on national researches and local raw materials.

Thereupon, it is of high importance to establish a platform for the dialog and intensify cooperation between pharmaceutical enterprises, government bodies and scientific-research institutions. Round table is an opportunity for all the parties to discuss existing perspectives and problems, as well as to develop suggestions on increasing effectiveness of their further cooperation.

These kinds of events are constantly organized by CCI and UNDP "Business Forum of Uzbekistan (Phase 2 Project)" on various topical issues. The round tables result in Policy Paper with proposals on further development of given sectors of economy and are submitted for consideration of government bodies.
