Uzbekistan 05/10/2007 Uzbek parties to nominate presidential candidates

The central council of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businessmen - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) - held its session in Tashkent on 4 October.

Members of the party’s central council and parliamentary faction, deputies to the local councils of people’s deputies and active members of the party took part in the session.

The session considered an issue related to the party’s participation in the election of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Participants who took the floor at the session noted that the upcoming presidential election in Uzbekistan on 23 December was a significant political event of great significance in deepening democratic, social, economic and political reforms being carried out in the country.

The party adopted a decision to take part in the election. The session also adopted a decision to convene a regular congress of the party in early November this year and discuss putting forward the candidature of Islom Abduganiyevich Karimov for the presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the UzLiDeP.

People’s Democratic Party’ (PDP) central council also held a session on 3 October to discuss upcoming elections. The council adopted decision to participate in elections.

The session also adopted a decision to convene a regular congress of the party in early November this year and discuss putting forward the candidature of Asliddin Rustamov for the presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan from the PDP.
