Uzbekistan 17/03/2008 Uzbek parliament adopts law against human trafficking

The press release of the government, published at the website of the Jahon news agency of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, said the adoption of the new law serves as reliable legal base for prevention of human trafficking.

It will also help improve efficiency of fight illegal exploitation, migration and trade of human beings.

The release said the law enforcement bodies received over 1,000 applications from victims of human trafficking in last three years. Over 700 criminal cases were opened. The release added that over half of victims are women.

It should be noted that the law should be approved by the Senate and signed by the president to come into effect.
