Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 October, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the Governing Council of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, a meeting was held between the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umrzakov and the ex-head of the International Monetary Fund, the newly elected Chairman of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, during the meeting, C. Lagarde was given an official letter from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan with congratulations and wishes for success on the occasion of the election of the head of the ECB to a high post.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of socio-economic reforms, as well as relevant issues related to them: liberalization of the economy through the introduction of modern regulatory mechanisms, more active attraction of foreign direct investment and funds from international development institutions, stimulating the development of the capital market, regional and sectoral development programs .

Speaking about further prospects for cooperation with Uzbekistan, the meeting raised issues of potential cooperation and assistance to the Government of the Republic in intensifying the country's transformation processes and ensuring the irreversibility of the reforms.
