Uzbek Metallurgical Plant (Uzmetkombinat) produced 279,540 tonnes of steel in the period January to May 2007, up 0.6% year-on-year, it was reported on June 5, 2007.
The enterprise’s ferrous rolled stock output increased 0.8% on the year to 267,370 tonnes in the first five months of 2007, including 202,370 tonnes of profile rolled stock, up 1.1% year-on-year.
Uzmetkombinat is the only plant in Central Asia, which uses scrap metal. The plant was put into operation in 1956.
EarlierUzmetkombinat processed scrap metal, supplied from all the countries in Central Asia. Currently the plant is not working at full capacity because of a drop in scrap metal supplies.
Uzmetkombinat is based in Bekabad, Tashkent region, eastern Uzbekistan.
