Uzbek Leather Industry Strengthens Presence in European Market: Delegation Visits Italy

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 June 2025, a delegation of representatives from Uzbekistan’s leather industry held a series of important meetings in the city of Arzignano, located in the industrial heart of Italy’s Veneto region.

This visit marked not only the continuation of business cooperation but also symbolized a new stage in the entry of Uzbek leather products into the European market.

The first stop on the program was a visit to Acque del Chiampo S.p.A., one of Italy’s leading water treatment companies. The company serves both residential areas and industrial facilities, including tanneries, managing a dedicated wastewater system and more than 42 treatment plants that serve up to 1.7 million equivalent users.

During the meeting, the Uzbek delegation proposed cooperation on the creation of similar environmental infrastructure in Tashkent Region and the city of Nukus. Initial project development is currently underway, with plans to implement Italian technological solutions in Uzbekistan.

The next stage was a visit to Conceria Ferrari, a tannery founded in 1946 that supplies high-quality leather to luxury brands such as Hermès. Of particular note was the fact that the company is already importing crust leather from Uzbekistan, supplied by Orient Technology LLC, confirming that Uzbek products meet European standards.

The delegation familiarized itself with production processes, environmental regulations, and international certifications (including LWG Gold and ICEC), and discussed prospects for further expanding cooperation.

In addition, the Uzbek representatives visited the Arzignano city administration, where they met with Deputy Mayor for Investments Riccardo Maziero. The sides discussed the potential application of Arzignano’s industrial zone experience in Uzbekistan. The Italian side also welcomed the proposal to organize a return visit to Uzbekistan.

Another important event was a meeting with Giorgio Veronesi, President of the Italo-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce. The talks led to agreements in several key areas: promotion of Uzbek leather at international trade fairs in Italy; organization of short-term training programs and internships for Uzbek specialists; facilitation of trade links with Italian buyers for the export of wet-blue and crust leather from Uzbekistan; and participation of Italian leather companies in UzCharmExpo – Eurasia 2025, set to take place in Uzbekistan.

The parties agreed to extend the current Memorandum of Cooperation, and the Chamber expressed its readiness to move toward a practical implementation phase.

The visit to Italy was a significant step from economic, environmental, and trade-diplomatic perspectives.

Uzbekistan’s leather industry is strengthening its position on the international stage, demonstrating high product quality and advancing strategic initiatives.
