Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a law “On ratification of the Eighth Additional Protocol to the Constitution of the Universal Postal Union (Geneva, 12 August 2008)” on 6 September 2011.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 24 May 2011 and Senate approved it on 27 August 2011.

The document is aimed at ratification of the document, signed by Uzbekistan at the 24th session of the Universal Postal Union on 12 August 2008 in Geneva.

Uzbekistan joined the Universal Postal Union in 1994 and inked its Constitution and Final protocol (Vienna, 10 July 19964), and later to seven additional protocols to the Constitution of Universal Postal Union. All these documents are ratified by Uzbekistan.

In line with these documents, countries of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) create single postal territory to exchange postal correspondence and the aim is to organize and improve postal communication to develop international cooperation.

Ratification of the protocol will allow Uzbekistan to ensure sustainable development of quality and effective postal services, use single technology of receiving, processing and delivering international correspondence within territory of UPU member states, develop cooperation and protect its interest at international organizations.
