Uzbekistan 01/05/2007 Uzbek leader receives Chinese development commission’s chairman

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received chairman of National Development and Reform Commission of China Ma Kai at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on Monday, 30 April 2007.

Welcoming the guest, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said Uzbekistan highly values friendly relations with China.

Uzbek President Karimov said he personally values friendly and trustful relations between Chinese President Hu Jintao and leadership of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is grateful for support of China to realize Uzbekistan’s policy within international organizations like UN and SCO, President Karimov said. "We always feel support of China" he added.

During the meeting at Oqsaroy, the sides considered issues on investment, realization of projects in information technologies sector and other issues of mutual interest.

According to Uzbek TV’s Akhborot news programme, the issues on projects in information technologies sector prevailed during negotiations of the Chinese delegation in Uzbekistan.

China is one of the largest investors into Uzbekistan. The country invested over US$2 billion in Uzbekistan, of which US$600 million fell to share of oil and gas sector. Bilateral trade turnover between countries made up over US$700 million in 2006.
