A resolution by the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on celebrating Id al-Fitr [the end of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan]:
In view of the role and significance of holy Id al-Fitr in the spiritual life of our people, as well as in accordance with the decree, No PF-368 and dated 27 March 1992, of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On declaring the day on which Id al-Fitr falls to be a day off":
1. Following a notification from the Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan that the first day of Id al-Fitr falls on 13 October 2007, this day is to be widely celebrated across the country as the first day of Id al-Fitr.
2. The national Nuroniy and Mahalla [charity] foundations, the Kamolot social youth movement and all other agencies and public organizations concerned are to make, in an organized manner and at a high level, all the arrangements to mark Id al-Fitr in the localities.
3. Recommendations are to be made for the National TV and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, the Uzbek National News Agency and other media outlets to give extensive coverage to Id al-Fitr celebrations.
