Warmly greeting Commander of US Central Command Gen David Petraeus, Uzbek President Islam Karimov stressed the importance of the meeting, which anticipated a meaningful dialogue on further development of cooperation.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov said: “We consider your visit to Uzbekistan as a visit of the first representative of the new administration of the USA, of President Barack Obama, and as the USA’s aspiration to establishing closer, mutually beneficial relations with Uzbekistan. Therefore we attach great significance to our talks.”

The sides discussed a range of issues relating to modern tendencies in the world. In particular, the meeting discussed situation in Afghanistan, mechanisms of cooperating in the sphere of fighting international terrorism, drug trafficking and other modern challenges.
