Uzbekistan 08/04/2009 Uzbek leader discusses joint projects with Malaysian, South African firms

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek President Islam Karimov met the head of Malaysia’s Petronas company, Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican, and the chief executive officer of South Africa’s Sasol Ltd, Pat Davies, at the Oqsaroy presidential residence.

Having greeted the respected visitors to Uzbekistan, Uzbek President Islam Karimov said that Uzbekistan’s cooperation with Petronas and Sasol companies was developing and that successful implementation of a number of joint projects was a proof of that, UzA reported.

President Islam Karimov said: “Uzbekistan and I am personally very highly rate the existing relations with the Petronas corporation and its president Mr Hassan Marican. He helps enormously to build up our confidence and, above all, this can be seen in the fact that we have trusting relations with your company.”

A synthetic liquid fuel plant, to be build in Uzbekistan in cooperation with Petronas and Sasol Ltd, will further boost Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry, in particular its petrochemical industry.

During the meeting, Hassan Marican and Pat Davies expressed their gratitude to the Uzbek president for the warm reception and said that the Petronas and Sasol companies were interested in taking even more active part in investment projects in Uzbekistan.

During the talks, the sides discussed existing joint projects and exchanged views on launching new ones and some other issues of mutual interest.
