Uzbek-Iranian trade turnover reaches US$350m in 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Iran made up US$350 million in 2012, Ambassador of Iran to Uzbekistan Ali Mardani Fard said last week.

He said that he is happy to work as Ambassador in Uzbekistan. He noted that he is simultaneously Ambassador of Iran to Uzbekistan and Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Iran.

Ali Mardani Fard said that two nations have close relations in culture, economy and politics for over 3,000 years. After establishing diplomatic relations on 10 May 1992, relations between two states, thanks to long historic and cultural ties, are based on mutual respect and interest, he said.

Envoy said that Uzbekistan and Iran signed over 80 intergovernmental and inter-departmental agreements on cooperation in various areas, which determine main direction of interactions.

Ali Mardani Fard said that strategic location of Iran in Middle East and Uzbekistan in Central Asia strengthens geopolitical importance of the countries.

Iranian diplomat added that economies of two countries mutually fulfill each other. Iran and Uzbekistan can use not only their geographic location, but Uzbekistan can buy cheap Iranian products.

Ambassador noted that great role of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of two states in development of business cooperation. He said that these structures created conditions for expanding cooperation. Iranian businesses are interested in textile products and Uzbek cotton, he said.

He said that transport communications, agriculture, textile and energy are key directions for economic cooperation between two states.
