President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a decree on 11 July 2007 on increasing the salaries, pensions, stipends and social allowances from 1 August by 1.25 times on the average.

The move is aimed at "further increasing the living level of the population and strengthening social support of the citizens", the document said.

The following minimum monthly amounts will be in force from 1 August:

– salaries – 15,525 soums;

– pensions – 30,750 soums;

– allowances to disable from childhood – 30,750;

– allowances to elderly and disabled people without the required work experience – 18,625 soums.

Comments to decree said that the average size of monthly salary in Uzbekistan is 187,600 soums or about US$150 at the end of 2006.
