Uzbek-French business forum takes place in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An Uzbek-French business forum was held in Tashkent within the visit of the delegation of the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF, Movement of the French Enterprises) led by its vice president Thierry Courtaigne.

The delegation included representatives of 30 French companies and organizations such as Air Liquide, Alcatel Lucent, Alex, Alstom Power SA, BNP Paribas, Cifal Groupe, Citilog, Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, EADS Cassisian, Gregori International, Lafarge, Lohr, Nexans, Safran, Saint Gobain, Pam, Savay, Schneider Electric Societe Generale, Thales (Division Internationale), Veolia Environnement, MEDEF International, as well as Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry of France.

Thierry Courtaigne said that conditions in Uzbekistan attract many French companies, which can offer their partners many modern technologies and equipment. So, the French businesses are interested in expanding their presence in Uzbekistan.

During discussions between French businesses and Uzbek state bodies and companies, the sides considered development of cooperation and concrete investment projects.

It is expected that the meeting will expand investment cooperation in such sectors as finance, chemistry and petro-chemistry, energy, food industry, processing agriculture products, production of construction materials, pharmaceuticals, transport, tourism and others.

Currently, there are 17 joint ventures with French investments and two enterprises with 100% French capital in Uzbekistan. About 15 French organizations accredited their offices at the Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.

Trade turnover between Uzbekistan and France made up US$174.4 million in 2010, while the figure reached US$164.5 million in four months of 2011.
