Uzbek FM takes part in a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States is being held in Minsk today. 

The heads of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan arrived in the capital of Belarus to participate in the event, SB.BY reports.

The foreign ministers will exchange views on current issues on the international agenda and interaction in the CIS format.

In a broad composition, members of the Council of Foreign Ministers intend to discuss the issue of establishing a single anniversary medal “80 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.”

The meeting participants will also make decisions on the draft Convention on the legal status of delegations sent to member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States, on declaring the sports capitals of the CIS in 2025 and 2026, giving the status of basic organizations of the Commonwealth countries in the field of research into problems of ensuring military security, in the field of university sports and in the field of training, retraining and advanced training of personnel for judicial systems.

The meeting will sum up the implementation of the plan for multi-level inter-Ministry of Foreign Affairs consultations within the Commonwealth of Independent States and the action program to enhance partnerships between the foreign policy departments of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2023.

In addition, a number of joint statements are planned to be adopted at the meeting.

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CMFA) was created by a decision of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth on 24 September 1993 to coordinate foreign policy activities. The CMFA in its activities is guided by generally recognized principles and norms of international law, the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, the fundamental documents of the Commonwealth of Independent States, international treaties concluded within the Commonwealth, decisions of the Council of Heads of State and the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS, as well as regulations.
