Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 January 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who is on a working visit to Germany, met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles, in Berlin.
The Minister congratulated Josep Borrell Fontelles on his appointment as the Head of the EU’s Foreign Policy Department and wished him success. The parties confirmed their readiness to continue working together to strengthen and develop bilateral relations.
The importance of careful preparation for Uzbekistan – European events at the highest level, which will certainly give a new impetus to expansion of cooperation in various fields, was noted at the meeting. In this context, the parties agreed to intensify the activities of working groups to prepare for signing of the Agreement on Expanded Partnership and Cooperation and other documents aimed at building up Uzbekistan – European multifaceted relations.
The sides exchanged views on the regional issues. Josep Borrell Fontelles noted the EU’s high assessment of the results of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asia held in Tashkent in November 2019, which included current issues of regional cooperation and security, including the situation in Afghanistan.
Head of the European Diplomacy expressed support for Uzbekistan’s efforts to promote the launching of the peace process in Afghanistan and implementation of projects for socio-economic revival of this country.
