Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A meeting with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Technical Assistance Policy Larry Macdonald took place at the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan on 11 June, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.

The US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum, Head of the Tax Advisory Services Program of the Ministry of Finance Bill Remington and other specialists attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Ministry of Finance informed the American side about the implementation of economic reforms in the five priority areas of development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period 2019-2021, on liberalization of the economy, ensuring openness and availability of economic data, as well as transparency in the execution of the State budget.

 “The US Treasury cooperates with more than 50 countries around the world in providing technical assistance. All countries have their own development strategy, but in none of them have we seen such a sequence in the implementation of economic reforms in such a short time,” Mr. Larry Macdonald said.

In the course of the negotiations, the American side proposed, together with experts from the US Treasury Department, to identify priority areas for cooperation in order to effectively use potential technical assistance.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue to identify specific areas of cooperation at the expert level during the stay of the US delegation in Uzbekistan.
