Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 December 2020, an online meeting was held between the Minister of Finance of Resbuliki Uzbekistan Timur Ishmetov and the US Ambassador to the Republic of Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum.

At the beginning of the meeting, information was provided on the ongoing measures and reforms in the field of economic development, despite the socio-economic situation in the country in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, as well as a significant reduction in production and a decrease in economic activity associated with the introduction of a number of restrictive measures and quarantine measures. In addition, they discussed the policy pursued by the government of Uzbekistan aimed at overcoming the post-epidemiological crisis.

Considerable attention was paid to measures of comprehensive support of the process of privatization and transformation of state-owned companies and banks for the purpose of economic development and liberalization, continuing institutional and structural reforms aimed at reducing the presence of the state in the economy, further strengthening the protection of rights and the priority role of private property, encouraging the development of small business and private enterprises.

During the meeting, the parties also noted the work done in the framework of the US Treasury Technical Assistance and further cooperation between the two countries

By the end of the meeting, Mr. Daniel Rosenblum highly appreciated the ongoing reforms and positive economic indicators in the context of the pandemic, and also expressed his readiness to cooperate in the course of the reforms.
