Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Young filmmakers of Uzbekistan flew to Hong Kong to participate in the DigiCon6 Asia Awards 2019 Short Film International Film Festival, which will be held from 26 November to 1 December.
At the annual DigiCon6 Asia Awards contest, held every fall with the aim of finding and recognizing talented authors across Asia and encouraging them for outstanding work, two films of young Uzbek filmmakers were nominated - Tea, directed by Shakir Kholikov, and Gift, directed by Maria Askaralieva. In total, the delegation of Uzbekistan is represented by seven people.
“Young filmmakers are the future of national cinematography, and increased attention should be paid to improving their creative skills,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, head of Uzbekkino. “Our talented guys take part in such a prestigious festival due to their own merits and conditions created in Uzbekistan to support aspiring filmmakers,” he added.
Abdukhalikov emphasized that in the future, Uzbekkino will strongly support young filmmakers, implementing a number of projects to improve their skills.
“We plan to create a Youth Creative Center and a youth creative studio at the Uzbekkino National Agency. In addition, we plan to open a creative laboratory with 150 seats, equipped with all the necessary equipment for work,”said the head of Uzbekkino.
It is worth noting that the participating countries of DigiCon6 ASIA are Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand. Uzbekistan takes part in the festival for the first time. The organizer of the festival is the Japanese media giant TBS.
