Uzbekistan 13/11/2007 Uzbek female presidential hopeful says terror fight priority
The first ever female candidate for the Uzbek presidency, Dilorom Toshmuhammadova, nominated from the Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (ASDP), has said that one of the priority tasks of her party is fighting international terrorism, drug business and information attacks.

In her speech dedicated to her nomination as a presidential contender, which was published in the party’s newspaper Adolat on 6 November, she detailed the priority areas of her election platform. In particular, regarding foreign policy issues, she said: "We are the supporters of pursuing foreign policy which is suitable for the national interests of peace-loving Uzbekistan. It is also our priority task to further raise the country’s prestige in the international arena; and to fight ruthlessly against the destructive forces, which exist within and beyond our country, international terrorism, drug business, and information attacks."

The priority areas of Toshmuhammadova’s election platform also included stepping up economic and social reforms; raising women’s role in society; developing rural areas; liberalizing political sphere; reforming judicial and legal sector; developing education and culture. Her speech also included a report on the party’s activities for 2005-07.

Concluding her speech, Toshmuhammadova called on the party members "to actively participate" in the holding of the forthcoming presidential polls scheduled for 23 December 2007.
