The Uzbek and Egyptian leaders share the same view on the need to coordinate efforts in fighting terrorism, extremism and drugs trafficking, the Uza.uz news agency website said in a report published on 18 April.

Commenting on yesterday’s talks in Egypt between visiting Uzbek President Islam Karimov and his Egyptian counterpart, Muhammad Husni Mubarak, the report said: "The presidents have unanimous views on the need for coordination in fighting such threats as terrorism, extremism, drugs trafficking and organized transnational crime."

The report also said that the two leaders had "similar views on the development of political, trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt".

As part of his three-day visit, President Karimov also met Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Ali Abu-al-Ghayt and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mahmud Musa, the report said. The meeting between Karimov and Musa discussed "cooperation with the league and the development of relations with Arab states", the report said, adding that the talks resulted in signing a memorandum of understanding between the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and the Arab League general secretariat.
