Uzbek economy to grow by 8.5% in 2010 and 9% in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Economic growth of Uzbekistan will reach 8.5% in 2010 and 9% in 2011 in line with the forecasts, while external debt of the country to GDP made up below 10% as of 1 January 2010.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov announced about this at his greeting message to the participants of the international scientific-practical conference “Effectiveness of anticrisis programmes and priorities of post-crisis development (in example of Uzbekistan)”.

The Uzbek leader said according to forecasts, approved by international experts, the growth of exports and active industrial policy will ensure economic growth of Uzbekistan in 2010 and 2011 at the level of 8.5% and 9% respectively.

Adopted strategy on combating crisis and neutralization of its consequences allowed Uzbekistan to ensure sustainable economic development, which made up 8.1% in 2009, industrial output rose by 9%, agriculture output – 5.7%, investments into economy – 25% and foreign direct investments – 1.8 times.

Uzbek leader said the exports increased by 2.4% in 2009 and ensure significant current account surpolus and sustainable growth of gold-currency reserves.

Islam Karimov said over 940,000 new jobs were created in Uzbekistan, of which half in rural areas. The State budget was implemented with surplus. Foreign debt to GDP made up below 10% as of 1 January 2010.

President added that Uzbekistan approved programme on implementation of important projects on modernization, technical and technologic re-equipment of production for 2009-2014, which includes over 300 projects with total cost of over US$42.5 billion.

He added that concrete sources of financing, consortium of investors and realization terms were determined in majority of the projects.
