Uzbek DPM outlines priority directions of cooperation with China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov outlined the priority directions of further expanding economic cooperation with China at the Chinese-Uzbek Business Forum, which was held in Rizhao city, Xinhua reported. He said that attraction of Chinese investments, implementation of initiative “Silk Road economic belt” and development of bilateral trade.

He said that that attraction of Chinese companies into creation of export-oriented production capacities on production of modern consumer goods, construction and facing materials, pharmaceutical products, industrial goods, etc.

Rustam Azimov said that creation of production capacities in Uzbekistan will ensure presence not only in Central Asia with population of 60 million people, but also with the CIS with population of 300 million, with which Uzbekistan have bilateral agreements on free trade zone.

Azimov attracted attention to the result of cooperation of the Chinese companies in Uzbekistan. He said that tens of projects were implemented in Uzbekistan with the Chinese partners, which have strategic importance and helped to structural reforms in the country. He said that the Central Asia – China gas pipeline, Dehkanabad potash fertilizers plant, Kungrad soda ash plant, production of road-construction equipment, mobile phones, leather products and other projects were implemented in Uzbekistan.

The second direction is implementation of the initiative of the Chinese leader on creation of “Silk Road economic belt”, including in such directions as investment, development of transport corridor and financing of the projects, Uzbek official said.

He recalled that Uzbekistan was one of the first countries, which support the initiative on creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and hopes to start selection and implementation of joint projects, which will expand transport-logistic, power and communication infrastructure between Uzbekistan and China.

Third, China is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan, he said. Azimov noted that the bilateral trade between two nations stood at US$4.7 billion in 2014 and US$1.2 billion in January-April 2015.

Within the signed agreement on long-term trade of strategic goods, signed in 2009, the Uzbek side is ready to expand supply of cotton-fibre, mineral fertilizers, uranium concentrate, natural gas, metals and other products, required to fast growing economy of China.

Rustam Azimov stated that Uzbekistan is interested in implementation of measures on further diversification and expansion of nomenclature of goods, joint production and realization of goods, including to the third countries.
