Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- From 11 to 19 July 2024, a delegation from Uzbekistan, including members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and representatives from various ministries and agencies, conducted a study visit to Thailand.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about advanced practices in the prevention and treatment of dangerous diseases among migrants and to explore the activities of civil society institutions working in this field.
During the visit, the delegation met with officials from the Thai Ministry of Health, representatives from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health, as well as with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and non-governmental organizations working with labor migrants in Thailand.
Discussions focused on Thailand’s efforts to combat dangerous diseases, work with labor migrants, and the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases among this population. The meetings also covered Thailand's national health insurance system, its financing, benefits, and coverage, the role of civil society institutions, and their projects aimed at managing labor migrants and reducing HIV spread.
Additionally, the Uzbek delegation shared information about Uzbekistan’s achievements in external labor migration, as well as its efforts in the prevention and treatment of HIV infection.
