Uzbek delegation holds talks in Moscow on labor migration issues

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 4 to 5 February, a delegation from Uzbekistan visited Moscow and held meetings with a number of key ministries and agencies of Russia, including the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, as well as the Federal Service for Labor and Employment (Rostrud) and the Government of Moscow.

The central topic of the discussions was cooperation in the field of labor migration, as well as addressing the current issues faced by citizens of Uzbekistan on Russian territory.

As a result of the meetings, agreements were reached on cooperation in several areas. In particular, the Russian side supported the proposal to improve the system for the organized recruitment and professional training of Uzbek citizens planning to work in Russia.

The parties agreed to expedite the transfer of the procedure for obtaining permits to Uzbekistan. Russian authorities expressed their readiness to assist in the process of legalizing the legal status of Uzbek citizens in accordance with the Presidential Decree of the Russian Federation by April 30, 2024. The creation of favorable conditions for temporary labor migration through organized recruitment was also discussed.

In this context, Rostrud is considering the possibility of creating a “Single Operator” for the organized recruitment of foreign workers and developing preferential conditions, including the employer covering the cost of patents. Additionally, the Russian side assured that efforts would be made to prevent the spread of inaccurate information about labor migrants in the media.

On 4 February, an event took place at the Embassy of Uzbekistan, where a Forum with the participation of major Russian employers was held. During this forum, four agreements were signed regarding the organized recruitment of more than 3,000 citizens of Uzbekistan to work in Russia.
