Uzbek delegation holds meetings in Vilnius

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 March 2020, the next round of Uzbek-Lithuanian inter-MFA political consultations took place in Vilnius.

The delegations were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Giedrius Chekuolis.

During the negotiations, the current state and prospects of deepening the political dialogue, trade, economic and industrial cooperation, cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian and other fields were discussed in detail. An exchange of views took place on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The parties noted the need for specific measures to enhance trade, economic and investment cooperation. It was emphasized that the early holding of the 5th meeting of the Uzbek-Lithuanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation will contribute to the adoption of decisions aimed at increasing trade between the states, creating favorable conditions for attracting investments, as well as expanding entrepreneurial activity.

As part of their stay in Vilnius, the Uzbek delegation met on the same day with the Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Irena Šiaulene, during which the results of her visit to Uzbekistan in February of this year, as well as the head of the Lithuanian Seimas Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Group Valerius Simulik received a positive assessment. in December 2019.

The talks noted an interest in the further development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries through the mutual exchange of delegations and experience in lawmaking, as well as information and analytical materials that contribute to increasing the efficiency of parliament.

The Lithuanian parliamentarian emphasized her readiness to build up cooperation on various mutually interesting and mutually beneficial aspects of economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.

The Uzbek delegation welcomed the creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with Uzbekistan in the Sejm of Lithuania. It was noted that this will increase the level of bilateral inter-parliamentary dialogue.

At the meetings other issues of the Uzbek-Lithuanian agenda were also considered.
