Uzbek court jails another Afghan for smuggling psychotropic drugs
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Termiz town criminal court in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya Region has sentenced an Afghan citizen, Bismilla Nazar Muhammad, to seven years in prison for smuggling psychotropic substances.

The 62-year-old Afghan national, while filling in customs declaration, indicated that his luggage did not contain any narcotic and psychotropic substances banned from being taken into the country. However, during a customs check at the Ayritom checkpoint, 100 powerful psychotropic tablets were seized from him.

During the trial, Bismilla Nazar Muhammad fully admitted his guilt.

The Afghan citizen was found guilty of committing crimes envisaged by the Uzbek Criminal Code’s Article 246 Part 2 (smuggling psychotropic substances) and Article 276 Part 2 sub-clause (illegal purchase, possession and other actions involving psychotropic substances without aiming to sell them in large amounts).

The Termiz town criminal court has sentenced another Afghan citizen, Habibollah Abdol Ghafur, to eight years in prison for smuggling psychotropic substances, the Regnum news agency reported on 13 May.
