Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek boxer Sitora Turdibekova has been awarded a home in the Bulungur district of Samarkand region in recognition of her achievements at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Samandar Astonov, the head of the district administration, praised Turdibekova’s commendable performance in the competition and presented commemorative gifts to her parents.
In the Round of 16 at the Olympic Games, Turdibekova was defeated by Taiwanese athlete Lin Yu-Ting. This situation has been a topic of discussion due to a gender scandal that arose from the disqualification of Lin and Algerian Iman Khelif at the 2023 World Championships due to failed gender tests.
Despite protests, the International Olympic Committee allowed the athletes to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics, citing their passports and considering the gender tests to be illegitimate.
