Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An exhibition of artists from Uzbekistan was held at Moscow’s Central House of Artists as part of the 14th Moscow International Art Salon, which is being held in the year marking the 20th anniversary of the CIS. Dedicated to Navruz holiday, the exhibition was organized by the Fund Forum, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Russia and the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan in partnership with the International Confederation of Artist Unions.

The salon centers around two individual concepts: the artist and the city. While the latter seeks to present interpretations of the link between spiritual development and material world, the former offers depictions of artists as a source of inspiration conducive to artistic creativity and realization of one’s essence. The art show also contains creations by artists from Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Estonia and other countries.

Uzbekistan is represented by artists Tatyana Lee, Radik Azizov, Kurtjemil Seyran, Ilkhom Atabayev and Nurilla Hudaimuradov. In the words of artist and senior fellow of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Dilobar Mirzabayeva, “while Ilkhom Atabayev and Nurillo Hudaimuradov represent the theme “The Artist and the City” through architectural monuments in Samarkand and Bukhara, Tatyana Lee, as a true painter, depicts the old gate “Samarqand darvoza” in Tashkent and the old city. Here Tatyana unveiled her new series which he hasn’t shown anywhere except at her solo exhibition this year. I hope people in Moscow will like the works by the young and talented artists from Uzbekistan.”

This is a rare opportunity for Muscovites to view artworks by talented artists from the CIS and Baltic states. The 200-odd pieces created in various genres and techniques are united by one theme, the artist and the city. This year the salon offers pieces by both established artists and young talents who are fresh graduates of schools. Each artist offers his or her own associations, rural landscapes and auto portraits. Many of the artists whose works are on display hail from various countries and their participation in the exhibition is an impetus for further development. Visitors to the exhibition can view works created over the past few years as well as pieces from the 40’s and 90’s, which were previously been shown only once.

The chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Confederation of Art Unions and a member of the Fund Forum’s Board of Trustees, Masut Fatkulin, noted: “The 14th Moscow International Art Salon is a major cultural event for Moscow, Russia and CIS countries. This exhibition contains works by artists from all countries and we would like to highlight the series of works by Uzbekistan artists, who have participated in the project since 1998, when the first exhibition was held. The artists from Uzbekistan are very active in their artistic activities. They always participate in all major international art events, and the fact that we can see their creations is good evidence. This also shows the attention the art receives from the government, and respective institutions have been set up and various art events are regularly organized in this country. There are not very many examples in the post-Soviet space of active support provided by a state for fine arts, which has an impact on the quality of works and motivates artists. Every year we see more interesting artists coming to the exhibition.”

The 14th Moscow International Art Salon was organized by the International Confederation of Artist Unions and the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS countries.
