Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of the First Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum, a panel session was held focusing on the role of legislative bodies in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The theme of the discussion was: "The Role of Parliaments in Developing Strategic Partnership: Legislative Initiatives, High-Level Agreements, and Oversight of Their Implementation."

The session was co-moderated by Alisher Agzamhodjaev, Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Affairs of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, and Ali Huseynli, Chairman of the Legal Policy and State Building Committee of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan.

Lawmakers from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan held an in-depth discussion on key aspects of parliamentary oversight, the implementation of legislative initiatives, and mechanisms for ensuring their enforcement. Particular attention was given to the effective monitoring of the fulfillment of agreements reached at the highest levels, as well as the role of parliaments in engaging with civil society institutions and the media.

Participants emphasized the importance of critical themes such as the rule of law, transparency and accountability in government institutions, parliamentary oversight of budget spending, combating corruption, protecting human rights, and promoting democratic institutions.

The session highlighted the significance of active knowledge-sharing between the legislative bodies of both countries and the further development of parliamentary diplomacy as a tool for strengthening bilateral relations.
