Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 August 2022, in the city of Baku (Azerbaijan), a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat JSC Shavkat Umurzakov, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Samed Bashirli and the Vice President for Global Procurement and Supply Chain of GM International Johnny Saldana.

On the agenda, special attention was paid to discussing the issues of the current state and prospects for the further development of Uzbek-Azerbaijani cooperation in the automotive industry.

In the speeches of the parties, a high assessment was given to the dynamics of the development of friendly and partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, which are based on a close and trusting dialogue at the highest level. It was emphasized that the state visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Uzbekistan, which took place in June this year, gave an additional impetus to the promotion of interstate cooperation.

In particular, an Agreement was signed between Uzavtosanoat JSC and the Automobile Industry Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan to study the in-depth localization of cars in Azerbaijan. As a result of the successful cooperation of the parties on the implementation of the UzAuto SKD project in Azerbaijan, it has led to a twelve-fold increase in production volumes this year. The increase in volumes naturally led to mutual interest in the further development of modern high-tech car production using the full cycle method (CKD) with in-depth localization.

Touching upon the topic of bilateral cooperation in the automotive industry, the parties noted with deep satisfaction the positive trends in this direction. As an example, successes were mentioned in the activities of the production line of UzAuto Motors JSC and SamAvto JV LLC, which was put into operation in September 2021 in the city of Hajigabul (Azerbaijan).

At the same time, a general opinion was expressed about the presence of significant unrealized potential in the automotive industry.
