Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced the completion of bilateral talks with Uzbekistan regarding its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), confirming the Biden-Harris Administration’s support for this process.
In her statement, Katherine Tai noted that Uzbekistan has made significant progress in its efforts to join the WTO, particularly over the past two years, and expressed satisfaction with the conclusion of negotiations on market access for goods and services.
"Uzbekistan applied for WTO membership in 1994, but only intensified this process in 2020. Uzbekistan’s strong commitment to advancing negotiations led to the successful conclusion of our bilateral agreement," Katherine Tai emphasized.
She also highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation within global trade initiatives and expressed confidence that U.S. support would facilitate Uzbekistan’s successful integration into the international trading system.
Earlier, in November 2024, Uzbekistan’s Special Representative for WTO Affairs, Azizbek Urunov, announced the completion of negotiations with the U.S. as part of the country’s WTO accession process.
