US to provide $2.2 billion for democracy development in South and Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In 2009 the United States will provide US$2.2 billion for democracy development in South and Central Asian, major part of which (US$1.05 billion) will be allocated to Afghanistan.

Tajikistan will receive US$28.6 million; Kyrgyzstan - US$27.5 million, Kazakhstan nearly US$19 million; Turkmenistan - US$9.5 million and Uzbekistan around US$8 million.

Among other CIS counties Ukraine will receive the biggest amount - US$86.5 million, which will be mostly spent for building democracy foundations. Russia will get US$56.3 million, US$47 million of which will be spent for building democracy and civic institutions development.

Moldova will receive US$17 million from the US budget and Belarus - US$10 million.

Georgia, that will receive US$67 million, is beyond comparisons. Armenia and Azerbaijan will receive roughly equal amounts of money (US$28 million and US$24.7 million), the assistance will be mainly spent for various courses and specialist trainings (including military) both in the US and countries-recipients of assistance
