US expert expresses concern over construction of Rogun station
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Professor Roger Kangas from the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies of the National Defense University of the USA expressed his concern over construction of Rogun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan.

“Certainly, Tajikistan has all rights to build any constructions for electricity production and sale,” expert claimed. “But when you work at trans-boundary territories, than solution to these issues should be carried out in consultations,” added he.

Professor Roger Kangas emphasized that most of all he was worried by security, quality of dam construction in seismically dangerous zone.

He shared his doubts about technical quality of raised large hydroelectric station and acknowledged there is need to search new ways of decreasing impact to river conditions in lower reach, Jahon news agency reported.

“I’m not an engineer and I cannot say how “well” will be all technical constructions. But I believe that modern technologies’ use would allow to create reservoir system without effecting lower reaches,” he noted.

US scientist underlined that all these issues should be settled in the regional level.

“It would be better to make an international examination of hydro technical building construction,” expert underlined.
