US embassy says no talks with Uzbekistan on base rent

Washington is holding negotiations with Tashkent not on renewing the rent of a military base in the country, but only on the purchase of some goods at a local market as provisions for troops in Afghanistan, local media outlets have reported, quoting the press service of the US embassy in Uzbekistan.
A representative of the press service said that US and Uzbek officials in Tashkent were currently "holding negotiations on the purchase of some goods - construction materials, foodstuffs and water - for US troops in Afghanistan".
"We are not holding negotiations on the use of a military base in Uzbekistan," he said.
As for the purchase of certain goods in Uzbekistan, US diplomats said that these negotiations had nothing to do with neighbouring Kyrgyzstan’s decision regarding the Manas base.
