Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Urgench International Airport will resume operations on 5 August 2024 at 11:00 Tashkent time, according to Uzbekistan Airports.
Construction and renovation work has been completed ahead of schedule, although it was previously announced that the airport would remain closed until 7 August.
As a reminder, Urgench Airport suspended its operations on 20 July 2024 due to major repairs of the runway.
During the reconstruction, all flights were redirected to Nukus International Airport, and a shuttle service was organized between Nukus and Urgench for passengers.
According to the company, extensive work was completed within two weeks. Specifically, the runway's entire 3,000-meter length and 45-meter width were fully resurfaced and reinforced, and major repairs were carried out on the second and third taxiways. This will enable the airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A330, without restrictions, thereby increasing the number of flights and passenger traffic to Urgench.
It is worth noting that the last major reconstruction of the runway in Urgench took place in 1997, with partial repairs of certain sections carried out in 2018.
