Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27-28 September, the international conference “World Tourism Day 2023. Tourism and Green Investment” was held in Riyadh. The event was organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Tourism.
As part of the event, the delegation of Uzbekistan made a presentation of the country’s tourism potential. Delegates of the member countries of the World Tourism Organization were informed about the ongoing reforms in our country, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the field of tourism, information was provided on the ongoing reforms, new trends and green technologies being implemented locally, as well as on the processes of preparation for the 25th th session of the General Assembly.
Also, as part of the event, a number of meetings were held with representatives of foreign delegates; they were invited to actively participate in the General Assembly event in Samarkand.
The event was also attended by more than 500 delegates from member countries of the World Tourism Organization, including more than 50 ministers of tourism, heads of foreign tourism administrations, representatives of international organizations and industry experts.
The conference included a number of sessions discussing investments in the environment and human capital, new tourism destinations, sustainable tourism, education in this field, innovation and gender issues.
Speaking at the event, UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili encouraged everyone to travel to Uzbekistan. In his speech, he emphasized that Uzbekistan is a new attractive tourist destination and called on the heads of delegations of the Organization’s member states to actively participate in the General Assembly event, which will be held in Samarkand on 16–20 October this year.
Following the results of the international forum in Riyadh, an agreement was reached to hold World Tourism Day in 2024 in Georgia.
