UNFPA and UZINFOCOM join forces for digital transformation of healthcare in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the national integrator for the creation and support of government information systems, UZINFOCOM, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen strategic cooperation in the field of digital technologies.

The document aims to enhance access to reproductive health services, promote gender equality, and protect youth rights.

The signed MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in key areas, including improving healthcare and reproductive health systems, enhancing data management, and ensuring broad access to quality public services.

Key initiatives to be implemented under this partnership include:

Development and implementation of digital solutions to monitor demographic indicators and the population’s health status;

Support for programs on health and human rights education using modern digital technologies;

Application of innovative ICT solutions to improve healthcare and social support systems' effectiveness.

The cooperation will cover the following priority areas:

Knowledge exchange and best practices: Joint conferences, seminars, and workshops will be organized for sharing experiences in digitalizing public services.

Joint project implementation: The development and deployment of digital platforms to improve the accessibility and quality of medical and social services.

Analytics and research: Both parties expressed willingness to conduct joint research and analytical projects focused on improving demographic analysis and public health assessment.

"Digital technologies are key to ensuring fair and equal access to information and services. Cooperation with UZINFOCOM will enable the introduction of innovative solutions aimed at improving quality of life, especially for women, youth, and vulnerable populations," said UNFPA Representative in Uzbekistan, Nigina Abaszade.

This partnership aligns with the national strategy "Uzbekistan 2030," which focuses on women and youth health protection, reducing regional disparities, digital transformation, and expanding the rights of vulnerable groups.

The agreement marks an important step towards building a sustainable, modern, and inclusive healthcare system in the country.

UNFPA has been operating in Uzbekistan since 1993. Its relationship with the government is regulated by the Standard Basic Assistance Agreement (SBAA) signed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which outlines the framework for implementing international development projects.

Currently, the fifth country programme of UNFPA for 2021–2025 is being implemented, prioritizing the following areas:

Promotion of reproductive health and human rights;

Ensuring gender equality and equal opportunities;

Demographic dynamics consideration in development planning;

Support for youth and adolescents.

UZINFOCOM is a leading national integrator in the field of information and communication technologies, having implemented dozens of large-scale projects over the past two decades to create and support government IT systems.
