Deputy Justice Minster of Uzbekistan Esemurat Kanyazov presented at the Fifth Anniversary ICT Summit 2007 an online national legislation database –
Lex.uz, created at assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The website was officially launched with this presentation.
Lex.uz aimed to develop and improve system on dissemination of legal information with use of new information technologies, including via Internet, and formation of reliable and full database of legislative documents, as well as provide access to state bodies, population and businesses to legal information.
The database was created at assistance of UNDP and JICA. UNDP helped to formation of this database through its project "Enhancement of the National Legal Information System in Support of Reform Process in Uzbekistan".
Advantages of Lex.uz compared to existing legal software are reliability and fullness of database, timely publication of new documents, quality of information, accessibility through internet and user-friendly interface. The database includes documents in Russian and Uzbek.
Esemurat Kanyazov said in his presentation: "Realization of this project will decrease administrative barriers for businesses and ensure improvement of legal protection of entrepreneurs, including foreign investors. The project will have great importance for legal support of reforms in the country and raise legal awareness of population, which will promote rule of law."
