UNDP office in Uzbekistan presented new publication entitled "The Outlook for Development of Renewable Energy in Uzbekistan" on 22 August. The publication is jointly prepared with the Ministry of Economy of Uzbekistan and aimed to provide a comprehensive review of modern energy utilization in the country with opportunities for using renewable energy sources.

The publication based on UNDP Project Report on Review Studies for National Strategy on Renewable Energy in Uzbekistan and a number of other international renewable energy documents. It considers outlook for using renewable energy in Uzbekistan. This publication does not propose specific solutions nor does it assess the security of the energy supply of Uzbekistan and its regions, much less propose a renewable energy development strategy.

The purpose of this publication is to make the decision makers, academic circles and the general public more aware of the potential of the renewable energy options for Uzbekistan. It tries to dispel the impression that renewable energy are only for rich countries or that renewable energy is economically unfeasible and promoted simply for environmental considerations.
