UN Women expands its activities in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation led by Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Shakhlo Turdikulova is participating in the 67th annual session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which continues until 17 March 2023.

Within the framework of the session, the head of the delegation Shakhlo Turdikulova met with the Deputy Executive Director of the UN Women Anita Bhatia, during which the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at ensuring gender equality and women’s rights, increasing their status in society were highly appreciated.

The UN representative expressed her readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in the implementation of the strategy for achieving gender equality in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 and the national program to increase the activity of women in all spheres of the economic, political and social life of the country in 2022-2026. In particular, specific projects will be developed and implemented related to cooperation in launching innovation and digital technology programs for the broad involvement of women in entrepreneurship.

As a result of the meeting, an exact agreement was reached on the introduction from April of this year of the position of a manager responsible for the implementation of activities and projects of the UN Women structure in Uzbekistan.

In addition, bilateral meetings with foreign delegations were held on the sidelines of the 67th UN session and a number of agreements were reached.

At the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation Shakhlo Turdikulova with the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Kyrgyzstan, practical mechanisms for cooperation in the field of higher education and innovation were discussed and an agreement was reached to create a special project this year for start-ups and innovative projects related to female students of Kyrgyzstan.
