UN: Uzbekistan’s GDP to grow by 6.5% in 2017
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The real gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan will grow by 6.5% in 2017, the World Economic Situation and Prospects (WESP) 2018 of the United Nations said.

According to the UN report, the economy of Uzbekistan will increase by 6.4% in 2018. The growth of Uzbekistan’s GDP will make up 6.1% in 2019.

The UN experts forecasted that consumer price inflation in Uzbekistan in 2017 will be 10.5% against 9% in 2016. Consumer prices in Uzbekistan will grow by 8.1% in 2018 and 7.6% in 2019.

The authors of the report underlined on activation of economic activity in the CIS space. The report said that there is a resumption of growth in the Russian Federation and a revival of the economy in Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. In addition, Belarus emerged from the recession.

The growth of regional GDP is projected to be 2.2%. It is expected that in 2018 and 2019, the growth rate will accelerate to about 2.3% and 2.4%, respectively.

The economies of Central Asia will grow faster than in other CIS countries, due to an increase in the inflow of remittances, implementation of the “One Belt, One Road” Initiative, and in some cases the financing of development from the budget.

In general, most of the CIS countries forecast a relatively moderate growth, which will continue to be well below pre-crisis levels.
