During his speech, Pascoe drew attention to the efforts of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in settlement of situation and providing humanitarian aid to population.
He said that the UN chief hold regular contacts with the Kyrgyz interim government and leaders of the region. Lynn Pascoe said the negotiations of Ban Ki-moon are directed at searching ways for restoring law in Kyrgzystan, preventing clashes and coordinating humanitarian aid delivery.
In light of the security situation in the south, Pascoe said the creation of a humanitarian space or corridor in Kyrgyzstan for the UN and others to deliver assistance to people in need is an urgent necessity.
In remarks to the press after the briefing, Council members expressed their support for the Secretary-General’s efforts and called for a restoration of calm and the rule of law in Kyrgyzstan.
