On this day the UN called on all countries and peoples to stop military operations, or to celebrate this day with educational and public information campaigns for peace. The topic of this year’s International Peace Day is “Sustainable peace for a sustainable future”.

The UN Information Office in Uzbekistan will mark this day with the contest “For the good of the world” and will award gifts to winners on 21 September. The contest is open for people at the age between 7 and 27.

The UN Information Office said that participants can send essays, pictures and videos, paintings, applied art samples, and others.

All works should be submitted to the UN Information Office by 19 September 2012.
