Uzbekistan 25/09/2009 UN diplomacy center should help to solve Afghan conflict

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia should be attracted more to efforts on settling situation in Afghanistan, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the UN General Assembly.

Berdimuhamedov said importance and perspectives of the decision on launch of Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in 2007. He said the Center, located in Ashgabat, actively monitors and analyses situation in the region, actively participates in various events dedicated to important issues on Central Asia’s development.

Turkmen leader said: “We want to see Afghanistan peaceful and developing state, good neighbour and partner for all states of the region.”

He said that The United Nations, with its peacemaking experience, should suggest new political-diplomatic models for solving Afghanistan’s problems and take into account the potential of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.

He said Turkmenistan would continue to provide assistance to that country for reconstruction, and social and humanitarian purposes.
