Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Recently, relations between Uzbekistan and China have been developing dynamically in the spirit of strategic partnership and cooperation. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation in attracting credit lines from Eximbank of China.
In accordance with the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the program of measures for the further development of hydropower for 2017-2021,” from 2017 Turonbank attracted Eximbank of China credit lines totaling US$144.4 million to finance 9 hydropower construction and modernization projects.
In the current year, 2 new SHPPs were commissioned (SHPP at the Tuyabuguz reservoir was commissioned in March 2019, the capacity of the station is 12 MW and the average annual electricity generation is 41.2 million kWh, and the Cascade SHPP on the large Ferghana Canal was commissioned in July 2019 and an average annual electricity generation of 72.8 million kWh) and work is underway to create 3 new SHPPs and upgrade 4 SHPPs, which will be introduced before the end of 2020.
Turonbank and the Eximbank of China signed loan agreements worth US$65.5 million to finance the projects “Modernization of “Kasakad Chirchik HPPs (HES-10), “Cascade of Samarkand HPS (HES-2B)”, “Cascade of Tashkent hydroelectric power stations (hydroelectric power station-1)”and “Construction of the Shaudar small hydroelectric power station on the Dargom canal, Construction of a small hydroelectric power station on Picket 135 + 50 of the Dargom canal in Samarkand region”.
It should be noted that after the construction and modernization of the above 5 hydroelectric power stations, the capacity will be 76.2 MW and the average annual electricity generation will be 469.9 million kWh.
At present, Turonbank and Uzbekhydroenergo are preparing new projects for the construction and modernization of hydroelectric power plants in Surkhandarya, Syrdarya and Samarkand regions in the amount of US$120.3 million.
