TurkPA session notes reforms to support women in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 5 June 2024, the third meeting of the group of women parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TurkPA) took place on the topic "Women - the backbone of the economy, the driving force of entrepreneurship in TurkPA countries."

It was attended by women parliamentarians from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Northern Cyprus. The meeting discussed efforts to increase women's participation in the economies of TurkPA countries.

In turn, Gulnara Marufova, a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, who participated as part of the Uzbekistan delegation, noted that our country, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, is implementing comprehensive reforms aimed at supporting women.

It was emphasized that over the past 5 years, the number of businesswomen in our country has doubled, the number of female entrepreneurs who have started their own businesses has exceeded 200,000, and the share of women in the economy and industry is 46%. Women who wish to start entrepreneurial activities are actively supported by the state.

Legislative reforms aimed at expanding the rights and freedoms of women in our country were also noted, including changing the minimum number of female candidates nominated by political parties for deputies from 30% to 40% of the total number of candidates.

At the end of the meeting, decisions and recommendations of the group of women parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries were adopted. It was also agreed that the next meeting of the group will be held in 2025 in Kazakhstan.
