Turkmenistan to increase natural gas supplies to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov have agreed to increase the volumes of Turkmen natural gas supplies to Uzbekistan. This issue was discussed during a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries, as reported by Turkmenistan’s state news agency "Zolotoy Vek."

Additionally, both presidents highlighted the significance and prospects of joint gas projects to be implemented in the near future.

The press service of the President of Uzbekistan did not provide further details on the specific agreements regarding the gas supplies.

Earlier, in August 2023, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan signed a short-term contract for the supply of up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The parties discussed the terms of a long-term contract aimed at increasing supply volumes.

Since the beginning of 2024, trade turnover between the two countries has exceeded $1 billion, reflecting the growing economic cooperation.

Previously, Turkmenistan stopped gas supplies to Russia, opening additional opportunities for increased exports to Uzbekistan.
