Economy 05/10/2007 Turkmenistan, Tajikistan agree on power supply via Uzbekistan
Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have agreed on the supply and transit of Turkmen electricity in the volume of 1.2bn kWh via Uzbekistan to Tajikistan during five years, Tajik Avesta website reported on 4 October.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon told journalists about this following a meeting with a Turkmen delegation.

"I express my gratitude to the presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and Islom Karimov respectively, for their assistance in solving this issue," Emomali Rahmon noted.

"The energy ministers of our three states signed an agreement on the supply and transit of Turkmen electricity via Uzbekistan to Tajikistan in the volume of 1.2bn kWh in the winter period for five years," the president continued.

Speaking to the journalists, for his part, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said his country was ready to import Tajik aluminum and agricultural products.

"Tomorrow, I will have an opportunity to visit several farms and I can closely familiarize myself with the Tajik agriculture," Berdimuhamedow said.

"A free trade zone will be set up in Turkmenistan and we invite Tajik companies for cooperation. Moreover, a document on cooperation in the sphere of protecting and encouraging investment, which was signed by us today, helps this," the Turkmen president added.
