Uzbekistan 12/06/2007 Turkish professor publishes book on Uzbek literature

The book tells about the life and work of the most distinguished people of the Uzbek literature of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as offers the excerpts of their most renowned literary works. The book by Dr. Acik has come as an outcome of her many-years-long work along her studies of the Uzbek prose and poetry.

She has embraced the idea of writing a book about the renowned people of literature, who had lived and worked in the Uzbek soil, while her a two-year tenure at the Uzbekistan State World Languages University when she taught the local students the Turkish language.

Alongside the teaching Dr. Acik had dived into learning the lives and activities of the famous Uzbek writers and poets of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as translated their works into the Turkish language.

According to Dr. Acik, the Turkish public knows about the Uzbek literature, mainly, thanks to the works by medieval poets and writers, but meanwhile the period, which had been covered in her book, she says, the Turkish scholars and researchers did not ponder at all.

The book "The Uzbek literature" consists of two sections. The first section offers the brief description of the Turkic literature ranging from the pre-Islamic times to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The second section of the book is fully dedicated to the Uzbek writers and poets of the 19th and 20th centuries. Dr. Acik has named the said period a "period of the new Uzbek literature".

The edition includes the stories about the lives and activities of such outstanding Uzbek writers and poets as Isakhan Ibrat, Makhmudkhoja Bekhbudiy, Abdullah Avloniy, Munawwar Kari Abrurashidkhonov, Abdurauf Fitrat, Abdullah Kodiriy, Abdulkhakim Sulayman Ogly Cholpon, Elbek, Ghafur Ghulom, Muhammad Khodiev (Botu), Oybek, Abdullah Kakhkhar, Khamid Olimjon, and Usman Nosir. "The Uzbek Literature" does have the excerpts of the famous works by these authors.

The experts of literature make no doubt that Dr. Fatima Acik’s book would prompt an increased interest in the Turkish public, including the scientists and researchers of the Uzbek literature.
